We welcome individuals and families who wish to explore their understanding of Baptism and their faith and celebrate God’s love through the Sacrament of Baptism. Our baptismal practices are in accordance with the requirements of The United Church of Canada.

Parents of children to be baptized are encouraged to consider attendance in our church’s worship and activities as one of the first steps in supporting and nurturing the faith of their children. Those who do not wish to do this may seek a sponsor, who is already a member of our congregation.

In preparation for Baptism, we strive to know the baptismal family and explore their understanding of their faith and Baptism and the content of the Baptism service including the questions that they will be asked.

A wedding is an occasion for commitment and joy. In the church, couples make vows to one another in the presence of God and their families and friends. Inter-faith and same sex couples are most welcome at Cummer Avenue United Church. Couples who are not religious and do not have, or wish to have, any active relationship with a faith community should consider a secular or civil ceremony.

Couples considering marriage are welcome to be in touch with our minister to see if both the couple and the minister are comfortable going forward to plan the marriage ceremony together. If for whatever reason, either the couple or the minister do not wish to proceed, there is no obligation on either side. If the resident minister is not available on the proposed wedding date, a substitute minister may be asked to officiate on that occasion, subject to approval by the Executive Board of Cummer Avenue United Church.
